Its denomination
Very close to the villages Banka and Bandja, its very recent name dates back to 1909 and is the work of a German Lieutenant. Indeed, upon arriving in the locality while on a journey towards Dschang, he asked to know the name of this village. Petouni is the name that was given to him.

A denomination which, according to the natives, would signify those who cut heads on one side and those who descend by the head on the other side. The first meaning alluding to the various wars where warriors used spears and machetes to overcome their adversaries. And the second, those who descend the mountains.

The foundation of the Fotouni kingdom
Fotouni was thus founded by the sole will of the king Banka who wanted to install his cousin Fondjo 1st by his side. By doing so, he set its limits to Pantchi (the red river) towards Banka and to the sub-prefecture and the police station towards Bandja.

The Fotouni dynasty
Touni has a second-degree chieftaincy. And according to the development committee of this community, its dynasty has seen several chiefs who have marked the history of this chieftaincy. These include: SM Quiekieka; SM Epantan; SM Kwetchouong; SM. Nadomdom; SM. Ngouetnet; SM. Foyet; SM. Ngakam; SM Ngomseu; SM. Kamgang; SM. Fondjo; Temdemnou and SM Fondjo II, who has been reigning since 2011.

The spoken language
The language spoken in the Fotouni village (Touni) is Fotouni, a language very close to the Batié language. And its inhabitants are designated as “Pe Tounis” which means the people of Touni (the village). The Fotounians, as they are also called, are proud to belong honorably to this beautiful and wonderful village wherever they are.

The beauty of the Fotouni community
Its mountainous and rugged relief gives it a cool climate. And its valleys, an undeniable beauty and tourist richness. Fotouni has a very attractive landscape. Its public school, its high school as well as other private establishments provide good education to its sons and daughters.
